I Held Her Heart

I held her heart close to my ear
And listened to her heart roar
I beckoned her soul to speak of love
So I could lean more
I held her tight but she never spoke a word
Her soul cried a river of bitter tears
The river floated the shipwrecks of the past
Harboring and hiding the transient things
Ships of a bittersweet past
A steady stream of hurts flowed
Washing the jetsam away
Calmer seas began to prevail
I listen to her for a while
And watched her heart prepare to set sail
Her heart spoke loud and clear to me
Told me what it wanted me to hear
I will always listen
I will always hold you near
