There’s a verse in a Colby O’Donis song where AKON
raps about a girl “always talkin’ ‘bout what you got”
I’m here to tell you if clothes and possessions made the man
or woman then most of us would go bankrupt shopping; truth be told most of us
do! We should never allow our material possessions to define us because they
are temporal and transient and can be taken away at any point in time.
We live lives of excess and conspicuous consumption. We live
our lives like were in competition with one another hence the invention and
usage of the word hater. We have gotten so far away from the values of our
grandparents. We have disrespected and dishonored our fundamental truths. We
have dismissed things as old-fashioned never once thinking that this is how we
were able to progress.
As we approach the holiday of Thanksgiving let us be truly
thankful; not just for the material blessing, they come and go, but I challenge
you to be thankful for the wilderness experience, the trials, the loneliness,
the anger, the hurt…whatever you thought you couldn't get over because you did!
You’re still standing and you’re able to praise for it (hallelujah glory to
God!) Stop looking to God as you would Santa Claus thinking that only positive
and good will be His response…trials can and will come (precious metals have to
be refined by fire.) Rest assured that they will pass and you will have your
“peace be still” moment.
I would be remiss if I just printed that message and did a
peace out! But, I am writing this as a challenge to adopt a new lifestyle and
philosophy for living. Live the Beatitudes – let them be YOUR ATTITUDE!
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be
comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed
are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be
satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed
are the pure of heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the
peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Blessed are
they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven."
