Listening to God BY: KB © 12.19.14

I was sitting around this morning just letting the Scripture, from my devotional, soak into my spirit. The Holy Spirit came upon me and I just started to feel flooded by the emotion of gratitude. The Lord has blessed me with so much…now if you look at my circumstances with a “worldly” view you wouldn't see much. I’m deep in debt from student loans and taxes – but the things that created the situation were a blessing to me and to someone else.  I’m always scrambling when some unexpected cost pops up – but the Lord always makes a way and I have family and friends who go out of their way to provide either financial or emotional support when I need it. Last but by no means least I have been blessed with health. The Lord blessed me with a life lesson using cancer….OH! I know I've been blessed.

My praise led me to think about hearing and listening to God. We have gotten sooooooooo far removed from the church of our grandparents; so much so that we treat it like a trip to 7-11…it has to be quick, fast and convenient. We liked to be served Scripture a tepid temperatures as not to burn our egos and pride. Our services have to be over in a certain amount of time because we have TV watching, shopping or a myriad of other mundane, mind-numbing activities to engage in. We hear the word but the doing is woefully lacking. We say we have relationship with Christ but an occasion wave or prayer in times of trouble is NOT a relationship. We say we love but we can’t keep a commandment. We say we have faith but we make moves and manipulate to insure our outcomes. We say we trust but we subconsciously undermine…..I know I’m preaching to somebody today!!!!

Proverbs 2:1-5 ESV  My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

We approach faith like this: we buy a gym membership, go to the gym, watch somebody else working out and expect our lives and bodies to change. I can’t have faith for you…I can develop my faith and teach you in hopes that you get it…but if you never develop yours,  you will forever remain puny.

We cannot sit and “bootleg” information. We must hear, learn, apply, try and test it in our lives and then share.
