I woke myself up coughing...I'm getting that post holiday
cold. You know we spend so many days on the go knowing that we have to produce
and when we finally relax the cooties seize with a vengeance. So I am wide
awake trying to quash the dreaded throat tickle and chest fire with water; to
no avail I might add.
Since I was wide awake I
decided to read a bit earlier than my usual morning routine; one of the
things that I read today was the Our Daily Bread devotional; it was a powerful
read. I've heard and read the story of Jesus' birth on numerous occasions but I
had never really given thought to just how much duress was involved. Joseph and
Mary were fleeing the ego driven madness of Herod. (Matthew 2) What we know as
the "wise men" were actually sent by Herod to find Jesus - God spoke
to them in a dream telling them not to report back. Mary and Joseph were warned
to flee as well; causing Herod to do a radical mass killing in hopes of including
Jesus in his count,
What's my point? How many times have you allowed yourself to
be included in a count? (I ask this because we often hear the warning but we
tend to ignore it until death seems imminent) How many times has our ego or the
ego of another put us in harm's way? Can you recognize the things/people who exalt
themselves over God? Do you allow them to do so in your life?
We must learn to recognize an intervention. We must learn to
remove ourselves from the things that attempt to separate us from God. We cannot afford to let our egos ensnare us
and put us in opposition to God's word and will for our lives.
God hears our hearts in times of duress. He cares about our struggles and He delivers us....
