The Word

The word love does not come to my lips easily

So when I say it please believe me

I know how precious it is

So I treat it biblically

The ability to love is a gift from above

a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice

well-pleasing to God

loving you is a gift to me

and I am blessed beyond an earthly measure

love is a special gift, a Godly treasure

I wanted to create a forum for my poetry and short stories.

My poetry is the ultimate free expression of my inner most thoughts. My written word is all me without constraint of social norms and political correctness.

My pen name for writing is Muslim in origin and taken from both male and female Kifah (f) - struggle or fight. I chose this name because, like Miss Sophia in The Color Purple "all my life I had to fight"
Jari (m) I chose this name because it means powerful, brave and it speaks to my nature of being me in a world that constantly tells me that I am not allowed to be.

I am both masculine and feminine and I am a brave warrior who is un-apologetically me!

I am a writer to my marrow; it's part of my DNA, a generational gift. My grandmother wrote the most beautifully detailed journal that we found after her death. My mother is a published author - several nursing and nursing management articles. Now, I too have reached a place of maturation where I feel it's time to share my gift with the world.

This page will contain essays, poetry and short stories that covey the real and raw emotions of love and life through my lens. Who am I? I'm a lot of things to a lot of people so I'll try my best to utilize the various labels: Christian, Counselor, African American (Afro-Irish, Native) female, lesbian, co-parent, sister, aunt, lover, friend, writer, etc....

I wrote many of these pieces for my Senior Year Project for New College in 2006. It's been a long journey since then and I had a previous attempt at posting my work; the task became daunting and I all but stopped writing altogether...now, I'm back with a vengeance. I write new pieces DAILY.

The many facets of my life will ALL show as I continue to write
