So. I’m sitting here reading my devotions and posting pics,
as I do every morning when I come across a pic that says to surround yourself
with what you want to become and soon you’ll find yourself on that path (I’m
paraphrasing)
I’m currently wrestling with this concept because I want to
be known for my faith and commitment to God and for the most part I surround
myself with like-minded folks. Now, here’s my plight, I know we all sin. I know
we all fall short. I know we all mess up and get caught up….believe you me I
have made some EPIC blunders this year and it’s only May! But, I also take
ownership of my failures and defeats and offer them to God, asking, begging,
praying for help. The majority of the people I know are caught up with title,
position, ego and more often than not cannot see past their own situations. I
catch myself reverting from time to time but I use the word to draw me out…just
as others use the word to keep themselves locked into a position….often
claiming righteousness….Here’s a tip to help people understand when they are
off the path….when you begin to use the word to justify YOUR position rather
than to seek understanding and compassion….YOU are off the path. When YOU
mention YOU and YOUR accomplishment more than you speak of God….you are off the
path. When YOU are unyielding and lack humility….you are off the path.
I don’t want to be a part of this congregation but more
often than not I find myself standing alone, battling compromise and deflecting
unnecessary barbs of conflict.
When we get caught up we tend to forget two very important passages of
scripture:
Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
2 Chronicles 7:14 if
my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek
my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I
will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Both Scriptures indicate that are struggles and conflict are
often a result of our inability to give God His due.
As I evolve my surroundings evolve and my conversation should
evolve. I need to work a little harder on what I allow in my space and what I
allow my ears to entertain.
