Looking Back BY: KB © 5.5.15

OK, so my thoughts for today….I have been all over the mental map this morning. I got thrown for loop when one of my devotional pages had a broken link and I had to figure out how to post the message. It’s funny how the little things tend to derail your train of thought….

So here’s what I am currently ruminating on……the concept of looking back. I put it in terms of something I heard- a car analogy. The windshield is the largest window in the car for a reason. It enhances your vision and shows you a perspective so you can gauge progress. The rear view is somewhat smaller because it shows what may be creeping up on you but not to the point where it occupies your attention and consumes your view. The rear view also shows a progression and a vision of the things you left behind. The side mirrors show you what you've aligned yourself with being ever so mindful of the blind spot.

Now, if you think about it, the car is a vehicle built for progression. I say this to note that life is also a vehicle for progression; constantly looking back can cause just as many problems in life as it can in driving.

No writing would be complete without me using a scripture reference: Genesis 19:23-26
23 By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land. 24 Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land. 26 But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Lot’s wife….looked back and was returned to the elements. The Hebrew for “pillar” refers to a strong hold or a sentry, that is, something set to watch over something else. The imagery of Lot’s wife standing watch over the Dead Sea area—no life can exist on this spot, even today—is a very strong reminder to us not to look back or turn back from our progression in faith and to abide unwavering in Christ.

Long story short…if you continue to look back or go back…you will never find life!

How ya' livin'?!
