James 1: 4 – 6 …And
let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete,
lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God,
who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But
he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the
surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.…
Wisdom, compassion, insight….I had an experience last week
that just sent me into something. I guess the entire thing threw for a loop
because I had been having very complementary and amiable conversations with the
individual involved.
To give you a brief history of the conversation: The person
is somewhat of a grassroots advocate for autism but also speaks on political
issues. She had been commenting on the riots in Baltimore and referred to the
rioters as thugs and had begun to receive negative feedback on her choice of
words. (Now please note that this individual does not live in the US and has a
very harsh judgment and critical response for certain individuals. Black rage
has never been questioned or considered by this individual)
At any rate…I took exception to the phrase she posted “you African
Americans” noting that it was a phrase lumping everyone into one category. I
could care less about the word thugs but that she was in a dangerous place of
judging all by the actions of a few. She then went on to say that “maybe she
should use the “N” word in lieu of thugs to appease people” That was enough for
me….I was floored that she could slide easily from you people to the N word….I
true racist was revealed. The thread then went on to blame the victim, cite
black crime statistics and the like. I “unfriended” with the quickness. I also
had a conversation with another person who was appalled by the postings.
The whole thing showed me just how people can rally for a
cause and become completely blind and insensitive about others as long as their
needs are getting met. The situation also illustrated how ignorance is as
cohesive as it is corruptible; people bonding in destruction.
