Selfishness BY: KB 6.10.15

I have had reoccurring thoughts on this subject…..so once again I’m sounding off on the topic. I’m not addressing the momentary… “I want what I want” We all have times where we’re self-focused. I’m talking about the walking wounded who have deep emotional wounds to the point where they don’t trust people so they can’t depend on or rely on people to help which results in them USING everyone and everything in the belief that they will heal.

1 Corithians 6: 19 – 20     …Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

If you know this why do you treat yourself and your body like something from the Dollar Store?
Everyone who knows me knows my profession and how stressful it can be sometimes….and often get angry with me because I check out and go off the grid on the weekends because I just don’t want to see people and I need to recharge. I love that I’m able to problem solve and help people get back on the right track, I wouldn’t trade the gift for anything in the world but I also have to be aware of the fact that it takes its toll on the mind and body so it’s ever so critical to stay focused and grounded…..where am I going with this?

Imagine a pre-school teacher in a room of about 30 or so 2 year olds….the epic level of “ I want it now or I want what he/she has” must be a pressure cooker for whoever is lucky enough to monitor the situation. This is what God hears and sees on a non-stop basis….now, the I wants get bigger and more demanding with the age. The ability to rationalize, justify and freely choose the poor behaviors become an affront to Him and His calling upon your life. Yet, He continues to love us and keep us from killing ourselves with our own selfishness.

Selfishness also give us permission to mistreat people; we’ve convinced ourselves that we get to judge and that our victims somehow deserve or mistreatment and cruelty.

Luke 10: 25 – 37     25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

How ya livin?
