Someone once said, I’m paraphrasing, that “we embrace the
love that we think we deserve.”
I know that what I’m writing will come across as “platitude-y
and preachy” but I want you to read this thoroughly and work with the pieces
that apply to you; “eating the meat and throwing away the bones” so to speak.
In this age of “instants”, quick, fast and hurries we are
systematically programed to miss signals and cues allowing our brains to bridge
these gaps. You know, like the memes with numbers and letters that ego stroke and
tout your intelligence by allowing to think that you’re part of an elite group
because your brain can decipher the obvious message….. I know, I know you’re asking
what’s my point? My point is that we do the EXACT same thing with love. Yeah, I
said it, we get all caught up in our romantic, greeting card, tv show notions
of it and then we are woefully disappointed because we’ve shared our “essence”
with someone who didn’t know how to love, had no reverence for love and just
wanted THEIR needs met. We role play repeating this pattern for so long that we
tend to forget that we are ROYAL and DESERVING. In other words, we have grown accustomed
to living beneath our privilege and thereby reject love because it does not
reflect what we have grown accustomed to.
Like in the parable of the Prodigal’s Son in Luke 15: 11-32 we
spend an exorbitant amount of time in riotous living and when all is said and
done, we have a moment of clarity where we come to the realization that what
looked like a good time was, in reality, wallowing with pigs. Reflecting on
this repeated patterns of behaviors bring me around to Romans 8: 26 (but read ALL of Romans 8) where the scripture
tells us that we pray not as we ought…..Now, with that, here’s the big finish,
here’s the bow on the gift; stop telling God how to do His business. If you
could have fixed the problem you wouldn’t be reading this….we have got to break
the habit of telling GOD ß
read that again, what our blessings should look like…praying the Lord’s prayer
with the slight change “thy kingdom come MY will be done” Keeping it 100, you
had the shot at implementing YOUR will.
I’m thinking of a scene from the movie Titanic, a door was a
lifeboat for Rose….will you lose your life (love) because YOU need to see a
ship? I’m sure you have had plenty of opportunities for love because God is
STILL in the blessing business but you’ve avoided or missed your blessing because
you have been looking for your familiar…
Question: Does your Exodus end with you returning to slavery
or are you going to look to God for a new thing?
